Big city eats on a small scale budget: Where to eat for less than $20

Updated: Apr 22, 2020

Great food doesn't need to break the bank! Especially in Tampa, that has a growing community of affordable, yet delicious food that is taking over Instagram news feeds everywhere. Scroll below to see a few of our favorite Local Tampa hot spots that will fill your belly without emptying your wallet.

Bodega Seminole Heights:

Originally only located in St. Pete, they have recently opened a new location in Seminole Heights. Known for their delicious Cuban sandwiches, you can leave here satisfied and frugal. Only $9.00 for a full sized delicious Cuban Sandwich, add a side for between $3 - $8.

Michelle Faedo's Tempeno Cuisine:

Cheese steaks, pasta dishes, sandwiches, comfort food, and more is served up daily at Michelle Faedo's Tempeno Cuisine. With a new special daily, you'll never go bored, broke or hungry. Make sure you visit this Tampa staple ASAP!

Guthrie's Chicken Fingers:

Relatively new to Tampa, this southern fried chicken classic has made its mark! Uniquely battered fried chicken, french fries and chicken sandwiches all supplied with their LEGENDARY SECRET SAUCE. We begged, pleaded, and also purchased by the VAT, but they STILL wouldn't give us the secret formula. So for now, we'll frequent Guthrie's and ask for EXTRA sauce because if not, you'll be seen licking the container and in public, that's apparently "frowned upon" (who knew?). You can try Guthrie's for yourself at 5338 S. Dale Mabry Hwy in Tampa, FL. Let them know we sent you!

King Of The Coop:

Hattie B's WHO? There's a reason they're named THE KING. Their fried chicken is a WORK OF ART. Perfectly battered, seasoned and complimented by all the fixin's you want to add. Sandwich, tenders, leg or breast quarters or wings - the choice is yours. Dress your chicken up in one of their signature sauces, or leave your bird naked (just salt & pepper). If you're feeling adventurous we recommend ordering The KingMac, 2 tenders in the sauce of your choosing, b&b pickles, shredded slaw, king sauce and topped with the cheesiest, creamiest mac and cheese while served between two toasted buns. This sandwich will run you $12 as is, but we suggest adding a $3 side of their seasoned fries or 8oz of the creamed collard greens.
