Edit 07/06/2021: Kuba Cocina is now KUBA EN LA PLAYA and has moved to 7525 Blind Pass Rd, St Pete Beach, FL 33706.
[KŪ´BÅ] Cocina takes delicious Cuban food and adds a soul food twist that is out of this world. Chef Felicia Lacalle designed a colorful, rich menu full of flavor and soul that lives inside of the Tampa staple Armature Works.
[KŪ´BÅ] Cocina is anything but plain, even their water is infused with fruit and served with a delicious lemon slice. Their signature Sangria is made fresh, in-house and full of fruity flavors.
We were able to sample their build-your-own Cuban bowl, an appetizer and a rich, decadent dessert.
TOSTONES RELLENOS: Tostones topped with melted muenster cheese, red wine sofrito-braised
ropa vieja (beef), and a spicy saffron aioli.
The flavors of this appetizer blended so perfectly together that it was easily my favorite item we tried (which is hard to say, since everything was amazing)
BUILD YOUR OWN CUBAN BOWL: Choose your protein and three sides to complete your bowl.
We selected the Palomilla Steak for our protein, which was tender and sauteed with onions for extra flavor. I was surprised with how generous of a portion we were given considering the entree comes with three sides.
For our sides we chose Yucca Fries, Garlic Tostones and Cuban Cole Slaw
This was my first time trying Yucca Fries and I'm really contemplating my life choices since these were so fluffy, savory and fried to golden perfection.
The Garlic Tostones were fried, smashed, and fried a second time into golden medallions that were served with a garlic cilantro cream sauce that went well with the Yucca Fries too!
Cuban Cole Slaw is regular shredded slaw but rather than being mixed with mayonnaise, it's tossed in an oil vinaigrette. This was such a refreshing side and was perfect for the hot Tampa day.
FLAN DE CHOCOLATE CON FRESAS: House-Made Nutella Flan with whipped toppings, chocolate crumbles and garnished with a juicy strawberry.
This rich, creamy and heavenly dessert must have been hand crafted by the Gods because I heard angels singing when I took my first bite. All dramatics aside, this dessert is amazing and we highly recommend you order it when you visit.
